1917: World War I from the vantage point of British soldiers, based on early film footage and original photographs from the British Museum's archives. It's a powerful blend of battle sounds, black and white images, and long camera shots showing the truth about war from those in the trenches.
Jojo Rabbit: Hitler's the idolized imaginary friend of a little boy whose mother's hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. I hated this film at the beginning, but it grew on me and is definitely worth viewing in its entirety.
Just Mercy : While focusing on one family, this is the true story of racism, poverty, and how our criminal "justice" system destroys the lives of innocent individuals and their families. Bryan Stevenson's book is even better, but both are powerful reminders of prejudice at its worst, still rampant in America.
Pain and Glory: A Spanish language film about revisiting the past, aging, dealing with health issues, and reconnecting to old relationships. Antonio Banderas is exceptional.
